SMART Recovery Program

Been surifn the SMART forums and looking at what they have to offer. It is basically a "self-help" program that was created in Mentor, Ohio. The program lets the individual choose to make progress on their own and on their own terms. The information I looked at talked a lot about "tapering off" on drinking or using and quite a few individuals have had some success with that. It seems to me to be a "don't give up until you succeed" type of deal and, honestly, it appears that a lot have tried multiple times to kick the habit and finally were able to beat their addiction. So, maybe I'll give it a try and see what happens. What's the worse that could happen? I drink a beer tomorrow? We'll see....

Just Another Opium Addiction Statistic?

Philip Seymour Hoffman dead at 46: Actor had 70 bags of heroin, prescription drugs in home

Sources say 70 baggies of heroin, at least 50 of which were unopened, were found in the actor’s apartment — some with an 'Ace of Hearts' stamp, which police say they haven't seen in New York City since 2012. Investigators also found about 20 hypodermic needles and five prescription drugs, including one used by heroin addicts to help kick a habit.

Need an Addiction Intervention?

Addiction Intervention and family interventions are highly structured meetings of acquaintances, family and/or work associates coming together jointly to encourage an addicted person (or any struggling person) to seek assistance.   Often an addicted individual is naive or unable to visualize, not to mention feeling, the destruction they're producing within the family.
Most addicts hang on to the belief that they will be able to beat their addiction on their own - after they decide the time is appropriate. Sadly, this is usually an unrealistic expectation.

Addiction to Alcohol

Addiction to alcohol is probably one of the most severe addictions that we as a society face today.    Recent studies show that about twelve percent of American adults have had an alcohol dependence issue at some time in their life. At current, there is no known finite etiology of an addiction to alcohol, but heredity and environment may be factors.   Widely considered as a disease by experts, addiction to alcohol only worsens when left untreated.

Primo's Deli in Akron

Had date night with the wife tonight and, since I was planning the event, I wanted to try something a little
different for dinner and didn't want to hang with the same old thing. You know the routine, "Should we go to Applebee's, Longhorn Steakhouse, Red Lobster, or any number of other chain restaurants that clutter the strip malls and corner feed lots. Luckily, a friend of mine turned me on to a truly great deli that's been a cornerstone in the Akron area for over 30 years. It's called "Primo's Deli" and is located at 1707 Vernon Odom Blvd. in Akron. Their Spicy Italian Subs and Classic Reuben Sandwiches are just a couple of crowd pleasers offered, (I had the Reuben and my wife had the Italian sub) along with an intimate dining experience, friendly staff, and a list of specialty and craft beers that are hard to beat.

Primo's Deli  was voted #1 Deli by the Akron Beacon Journal for two years straight along with a host of other awards throughout the years.

If you are looking for something off the beaten path as far as good food, service, and atmosphere, then you owe it to yourself to check out Primo's Deli.

Find their complete menu here.

Warning: They do sell beer here - a lot of it! So, if you have an addiction to alcohol, you may not want to visit Primo's Deli.

Do You Have an Addictive Personality?

An “addictive personality” is mostly a phrase used to describe the behavioral traits possessed by an individual which makes him, or her susceptible to any type of compulsion, be it drugs, alcohol, sex, occupation, and even exercise.
“Addictive Personality” will not be a formal, clinical label although it has been used conversationally for years. It perhaps portrays the exceedingly high comorbidity and many predisposing components behind addictions. The fundamentals of diagnosing addictive personality are really vague to a large extent.

Today is the DAY!

I've had enough of the delusion and thinking I'm in control of this monster! It is ridiculous to even think this,
but this is the insidiousness of the disease. Today I take a stand and say, "NO MORE"! I will no longer support this demon that permeates my existence! It's OVER! Done! Today I am taking the monkey off my back and locking him up for good! No more bananas for you mister. Bad monkey!
