This site is a canvas for creativity and new ideas; to showcase some of my classroom assignments and maybe earn some feedback. It's all original material and, my hope is, to keep it as engaging as possible. It is an outlet, a place to vent, and manage my catharsis - Basically an open frontier, a playground and fantasy realm for an aging addicted mind.

House of Cards
Been doing well so far here lately as far as the job goes, but today was another matter. Had one of the upper managers drag me through a whole bunch of BS and announce it publicly to everyone else through our email system. I felt embarrassed and humiliated in front of my peers and superiors. I feel that this was very unprofessional and I'm fed up with this mentality. So what happened? I did what any other intelligent person would do in the same situation and turned in my resignation. I am so tired of being snaked by so-called "good people to know" that it's worth my sanity just to walk away. I'm not taking it any MORE!

Addicted to Alcohol
Addicted to Alcohol
Most individuals who become addicted to alcohol and other drugs
cannot merely discontinue
their use, regardless of how powerful their will may be. It’s true, people do become
addicted to alcohol and they tend to consume more and more as their body adapts to
the effects of the substance. This is when the dependence to alcohol begins. But,
this doesn’t mean they can’t disrupt the process and start recovery. That said, persons
who do consume more quantities of alcohol to feel the same effects are said to have
developed a “tolerance” to the drug. This is one of the early signs of alcohol addiction
symptoms and these people will benefit from a course of a regulated substance abuse
program to stop their dependence on drugs or alcohol.

Anyone Have a Food Addiction?
Okay, first things first - Food addiction is real! Food addiction can, not only threaten
one’s
health, causing obesity, malnutrition, and other problems, but It can also
have an adverse effect on emotions that leads to mood swings and other mental health
problems. Food addiction is a serious condition with many adverse health consequences.
It can be just as deadly and hazardous to your health as an addiction to cocaine.
Food addiction can be just as devastating as any drug can be and as real as drug
addiction. Thus, it has been shown to work largely through the dopamine-reward pathway.
This addiction is not just the mind playing tricks on people, but proven to be as
addictive as any chemical, substance, or activity. Food addiction can be just as
powerful in real, live human beings.

Back in the Saddle!
Went to the gym again this morning in an attempt to keep myself busy and not fixated on having any alcohol. The thing is that I need to swap my addiction from something destructive to something more constructive.
I've been down this road before and had a dream to compete professionally as a bodybuilder. I gave up drinking (and nicotine) and focused my efforts entirely on bulking up, cycle training, building lean muscle mass and became obsessed with my body to the point of taking illicit steroids and giving myself IM injections.
At the time, I was working as a registered nurse and could justify "forgetting" to take the 3cc, 1" syringes and alcohol wipes out of my pockets at the end of the shift. I would order veterinary grade anabolic steroids from the back of muscle magazines, crush the pills up, dissolve them in cotton seed oil or flax seed oil (the pills were not water soluble) and give myself injections of so many cc's daily. And it worked - for awhile. Along with my diet and the steroids, I was able to beef my 140 lb physique into 185 lbs of lean muscle over a year's time. But there was a downside, the steroids I ordered were only 90% testosterone, while the other 20% were estrogens. Without an estrogen blocker on board to counter the effects of the female hormones, I realized that my pecs were becoming very sensitive and growing larger! Okay! Time to stop the steroids!
Now, this is just an effort to show that, no matter what addiction is "replaced", even a seemingly constructive addiction has a dark side when carried to extremes. My goal now is a completely natural approach to bodybuilding with proper diet and the correct training regimen. I am also giving up alcohol at this time, but still continuing with the smokeless tobacco at least for now (everyone needs at least one vice, right)?
Right now, I am right at 140-145 lbs and I want to get back into the shape I was over ten years ago. It can be done, but I need to do it without getting too obsessed with taking shortcuts to get there.

Need An Addiction Specialist?
An addiction specialist is a health care provider who has been certified by the American
Board of Addiction Medicine, or it could be a
psychiatrist who is certified through
the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. These individuals will have an in
depth background in addiction education, and as well competence aided by the requisite
know-how and skills to provide screening, appraisal, treatment, and intervention
for people being affected by addictions to alcohol and drugs. While addiction can
involve many elements and different drugs, there's a need to seek advice from an
addiction specialist throughout the treatment of addiction. More desirably, an addiction
specialist is going to directly take part and oversee the individual's recovery.

Neck Deep in Alcohol Addiction!
Alcohol addiction, or alcoholism, can be described as a disease which is indicated
by the mental, psychological, and physical need for the assimilation of a particular
amount of
alcohol within a specified timeframe. Alcohol addiction isn’t anything
to be made light of. A person struggling with an addiction to alcohol will experience
powerful cravings that compel the individual to drink. Thus, alcohol addiction encompasses
every aspects of one’s existence.
Studies have shown that alcohol addiction is also an allergic reaction of the body
working on a physical level to keep the alcoholic a slave for the next drink, and
the next.
“Alcohol addiction can also be perpetuated by hidden food allergies. Food allergies
often produce cravings for the foods causing the allergy. William Philpott, MD, PhD
who is Board certified in Neurology, Allergy and Psychiatry, explains the body produces
endorphins or enkephalins, when stressed by an allergen. The opiate-like endorphins,
reduce anxiety and perpetuate the addiction”.
